“Hold thy desperate hand:
Art thou a man? thy form cries out thou art:
Thy tears are womanish; thy wild acts denote
The unreasonable fury of a beast:
Unseemly woman in a seeming man!”
Today is the age of victim hood. Its all about who is the biggest victim. Status was once based on wealth, power, strength etc but now its based on who can get the most faux pity or self serving sorrow. Today people like to claim they are part of an oppressed minority. People self diagnose themselves with psychiatric disorders (aspergers, ADD, ADHD and so on).
Everyone clamours for a “unique” and “different” illness, something to make them stand out. Self diagnosed illness or disability is now a badge of pride instead of the shame it once was.
We need a return to the social stigma attached to weakness; an encouragement to actually be strong in the face of adversity instead of wallowing in misery and sympathy and calling it strength through self pitying tears.
We live in a feminine age.
